I have an invention for Elon Musk in mind that came to me the first time I saw a first stage crash while landing on the drone ship. First here are some video clips:

Some invention ideas: Drone ship rocket stage capturing improvements.
#1: to help with buffering the impact of the stage on the deck on landing
Have a mesh of steel cables about 1 foot above the deck that looks like a tennis racket so the lander legs hit this first to act as a shock absorber plus snag notches on the lander feet to stop lateral slip.
This risk can be mitigated by launching when the weather is good for the capture and return voyage, but the solution will open up larger time blocks on the launch windows.
#2: to capture and hold the stage from tipping over if it gets too wavy at sea.
